Band

Beginning Band (grade 6)

• Traditional wind and percussion instruments
• Recruitment begins in the spring of the students’ 5th grade year
• The band teachers assess students to match the student with instruments that he/she will most likely be successful with
• Instruction begins fall of the 6th grade year and continues through high school
• Large and small group instruction occurs during the school day

Middle School Band (grades 7-8)

• Prerequisite: one year of band for 7th grade band. Two years of band for 8th grade band or by audition
• Traditional wind and percussion instruments
• 7th graders are together and 8th graders are together
• Large group bands meet two to three times per week and are part of the students’ regular class schedule
• Individual or small group lessons during the day – pull out of classes
• Other ensembles may be available

High School Band (grades 9-12)

Prerequisite: 3 years of band or by audition

• Traditional wind and percussion instruments
• 9th graders are together
• Upper grade bands are by audition and/or director approval
• Band class meets two to five times per week, depending on the ensemble, and is part of the students’ regular class schedule
• Individual or small group lessons during the day – pull out of classes
• Other ensembles may be available
