Grades K-5
Madison Elementary hosts the Chinese Dual Language Immersion program for students in grades K-5.
The Chinese Immersion program at Madison is a 90/10 delivery model. This means that language arts, math, social studies and science is taught in Chinese.
Formal English instruction in the classroom begins in 3rd grade, however, students learn English starting in kindergarten using the online learning system Lexia. Music, Art and PhyEd are all delivered in English.
MIddle Level
Grade 6: Students take Chinese Immersion Language Arts and Chinese Immersion Social Studies.
Grades 7-8: Students take Chinese Immersion Language Arts and Chinese Immersion Social Studies.
Grade 8: Students have the opportunity to participate in the Chinese Immersion Capstone Trip, a two-week trip in March that immerses students in the target language they have learned for nearly a decade. This trip is offered in partnership with St. Cloud State University.

The Chinese Immersion Program continues at the High School level with Chinese Immersion Language Arts.
Grade 9: Chinese 9 is a pre-AP Chinese course. Students continue to work on their proficiency levels with the goal of preparing students for AP Chinese AND passing the HSK Level 5. Students who gain a high level of Chinese proficiency have scholarship opportunities to study in China.
Students have the opportunity to participate in the Chinese Immersion Capstone Trip, a two-week trip that immerses students in the target language they have learned for a decade. This trip is offered in partnership with St. Cloud State University.
Grade 10: Chinese 10 is a combination of the AP Chinese content and HSK content. Students have the option of taking the Chinese AP Language & Literature course, as well as take the HSK 3, 4 or 5 exam
Grade 11: PSEO with Winona State University. Students will take Chinese 301 and Chinese 302, third year college courses, that focus on the four domains of language learning: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Grade 12: PSEO with St. Cloud State University. Students take an upper level Chinese course that focuses on Chinese language and culture.
